Darryl Anthony James

Darryl Anthony “Guru” James of Middletown, CT passed away on June 23, 2023 at the age of 55.  He was born in Middletown CT on June 1, 1968. He was the youngest son of the late Robert and Vivian (Mack) James.

Darryl was affectionately known by most as “Guru.”  He attended Middletown High School of Middletown CT.  Darryl loved basketball. He was a better-than-average basketball player and was considered a star player in high school.  He was a die-hard Boston Celtics fan. Whenever you saw him, most likely he had on the Celtics’ cap and jersey.  He loved to show his style; that three stripe Adidas life. Darryl loved to cook and worked as Sous Chef for most of his life.  He worked at nearly every restaurant in the Middlesex/Hartford County area. Darryl loved to make everyone laugh. People will remember how he was such a jokester.  Never a dull moment when he was around.

Darryl is survived by his son Darryl Anthony James, Jr. of Virginia; three brothers, Robert James, Jr. and Lawrence James, both of Middletown CT, Nelson Davis of Bridgeport CT; and three sisters, Gwen (Archie) Brown of Beaufort SC, Cheryl (Kay) Yeboah of E. Granby CT and Delores (Charlie) Hill of Middletown CT; a very special friend, Sonia Vargas of Hartford CT; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.  Darryl was predeceased by his brother, Bobby James of Middletown CT.

The family has arranged a private home going celebration and memorial service.
